Player of the Week: Maddie Ellsworth, Lowell Softball

Lowell freshman Maddie Ellsworth has been selected as the Valley Sports Daily Player of the Week for April 20 through April. 26. Ellsworth is the fourth student-athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the spring season.

Ellsworth dazzled for Lowell last week, throwing a no-hitter in Lowell’s 5-0 win over Billerica. She struck out a whopping 15 batters, following up the epic performance with another gem against Haverhill. In the 5-3 victory, the freshman racked up eight more strikeouts while allowing only four hits and two earned runs.

“Maddie is a true competitor and she has helped ignite a spark in this program,” said Lowell head coach Lizzy McQuaid. “We are excited to see what the future holds for Maddie and this team!”

Ellsworth is a major reason why the Red Raiders are 6-4 and are contending in the MVC 2. Only a freshman, Ellsworth is 6-1 in the circle with an eye-popping 1.85 ERA. She’s also recorded 60 strikeouts.

The Player of the Week is selected by the Valley Sports Daily staff. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at 8:00 PM. There may be a poll posted on Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selection but do not strictly dictate the decision.
