Andover senior cross country standout Landon Zoss has been selected as the Valley Sports Daily Male Player of the Week, presented by MTM Insurance, for the week of Oct. 18-24.
Zoss finished first in Andover’s meet against North Andover and Central Catholic. He finished with a time of 15:13 and a mile pace of 5:05. It was Zoss’ sixth first-place finish this season, making him perfect this fall in the MVC. He also set the 5K school record last fall at the Division 1 state championship meet with a time of 15:39.
“From the very beginning of his freshman year at AHS, Landon’s talent was obvious,” said Andover coach Sue Kiley. “It’s been such a pleasure to watch him grow, not just in his running ability, but in how well he understands his strengths and his competition, and in how much he’s developed his racing tactics. His kind, unassuming nature might not prepare you for how he races — gritty, tenacious, and with a pain tolerance that’s second to none. He’s been a great teammate, a gracious champion and a true leader. I am excited to see this championship season of his, he has done all the work and he is ready.”
Said Zoss, “I am super excited for the conference championship this Saturday, my team and I have been putting in the work since the start of summer and we are ready to give it our all.”
The Player of the Week, presented by MTM Insurance, is selected by the Valley Sports Daily staff. One male and one female student-athlete will be selected as Players of the Week throughout the year. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at 8 p.m. There may be a poll posted on Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selections but do not strictly dictate the decisions.
Landon Zoss earned Valley Sports Daily Male Player of the Week honors for Oct. 18-24 after another outstanding performance for Andover cross country.
