Player of the Week: George Papanikolaou, Haverhill Football

Haverhill senior receiver George Papanikolaou has been selected as the Valley Sports Daily Male Player of the Week, presented by MTM Insurance, for the week of Oct. 4-10.

The 5-foot-11 Papanikolaou has been racking up yards and touchdowns for the high-powered Hillies football team all season. In last Friday’s 52-32 win over Concord (N.H.), he tallied four catches for 124 yards and three TDs.

Haverhill is currently 4-1 on the season and has scored at least 33 points in four of its five games, with Papanikolaou serving as a major factor.

The Player of the Week, presented by MTM Insurance, is selected by the Valley Sports Daily staff. One male and one female student-athlete will be selected as Players of the Week throughout the year. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at 8 p.m. There may be a poll posted on Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selections but do not strictly dictate the decisions.
