Andover junior Haley Magenheim has been selected as the Valley Sports Daily Player of the Week for Jan. 19 through Jan. 25. Magenheim is the fifth student-athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the winter season.
Magenheim led Andover (11-1) to a pair of big Merrimack Valley Conference wins last week, including a 57-31 win over Central Catholic and a 56-47 victory over Dracut. The junior starred in both games, pouring in 16 points over Central before tallying 15 more against Dracut.
“Haley is the consummate team player,” said Andover head coach Alan Hibino. “She will always put the team first and has been a superstar in her role. She is an amazing teammate and has done a tremendous job on the court for the Lady Warriors.”
Last Friday, Magenheim also chipped in with nine points to power a 62-27 blowout win over Tewksbury.
Andover boasts one of the deepest rosters across the MVC, and Magenheim is a big reason why. A smooth finisher — Magenheim has averaged 10.4 points per game — she has also evolved into an elite defender at the rim. She put the state on notice with strong play at the Commonwealth Motors Christmas Classic and hasn’t looked back. Magenheim and Andover next eye an MVC matchup on Friday at Lowell.
The Player of the Week is selected by the Valley Sports Daily staff. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at 8:00 PM. There may be a poll posted on Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selection but do not strictly dictate the decision.
