Harry Garland was among the elite class of Merrimack Valley Conference linksmen all fall. Wednesday was no different.
Carding a sizzling 1-over 73, the Central Catholic golfer edged Andover’s Lucas Jenney (2-over 74) and Haverhill’s Tommy Murphy (3-over 75) to earn the individual title at the MVC championships at Long Meadow Golf Club.
In what began in rainy conditions, the league’s best golfers were treated to warm temperatures and sunshine as the afternoon progressed at the Lowell course.
Garland carded only for bogeys and made up for it with three birdies in what was an impressive round to lead the competitive field.
But it was Billerica who stole the show on Wednesday. Turning in a combined score of 230 (14-over), the Indians earned the team championship as Jake Cataldo (4-over 76), Colin Kennedy (5-over 77) and Robby Marrigan (5-over 77) all posted top-five finishes in the competitive field. Billerica’s Justin Pappalardo (6-over 78) didn’t factor into the team score but still was a top 10 mark on the day, a testament to the strong play put forth from the Indians.
Billerica edged Andover (232) and North Andover (238) for the crown. Central Catholic and Tewksbury were also recognized after the event for their respective regular-season league titles. Rounding out the team finishers were Tewksbury (239), Central Catholic (239), Lowell (240), Haverhill (241), Chelmsford (246), Dracut (256) and Methuen (263).
Individually, finishing in the top 15 was Garland (1-over 73), Jenney (2-over 74), Murphy (3-over 75), Cataldo (4-over 76), North Andover’s Tyler Fawaz (5-over 77), Kennedy (5-over 77), Dracut’s Ryan Cole (5-over 77), Tewksbury’s Drew Broderick (5-over 77), Marrigan (5-over 77), Andover’s James Dunham (6-over 78), Lowell’s Brodie Anderson (6-over 78), Pappalardo (6-over 78), North Andover’s Sean Radulski (6-over 78), Lowell’s Shane Peters (7-over 79), Central Catholic’s Jake Morowski (8-over 80), Andover’s Vincent Giaimo (8-over 80) and Tewksbury’s Tyler Crawford (8-over 80).
