Player of the Week: Jackson Buckland, Billerica Baseball

Jackson Buckland

Billerica junior Jackson Buckland has been selected as the Valley Sports Daily Player of the Week for May 4 through May 10. Buckland is the sixth student-athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the spring season.

Buckland played hero for the Billerica baseball team last week. Ripping a double in the bottom of the seventh in a 9-9 deadlock with Dracut, Buckland plated the winning run in walk-off fashion to key a notable win over a talented Dracut squad. He finished the game 3-for-4. Buckland stayed red-hot throughout the week, going 2-for-3 in a loss to Tewksbury before reaching base safely twice against Methuen.

“Jackson is a positive role model on our team and has been a clutch hitter all year for us,” said Billerica head coach Mike Waters. “He is having a great Junior season, batting .341 and playing a stellar 2B. Jackson has always been dedicated to our program and always works hard at his craft. Jackson has had a breakout campaign and we look forward to see what he has in store for his senior season.”

The Player of the Week is selected by the Valley Sports Daily staff. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at 8:00 PM. There may be a poll posted on Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selection but do not strictly dictate the decision.
