Player of the Week: Ella Duffy, Methuen/Tewksbury Hockey

Ella Duffy

Methuen senior Ella Duffy has been selected as the Valley Sports Daily Player of the Week for Feb. 23 through March. 1. Duffy is the 10th student-athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the winter season.

Duffy has been a key cog in No. 6 Methuen/Tewksbury’s two postseason wins, scoring both goals in the team’s 2-0 blanking of No. 27 Winthrop in the Division 1 round of 32 before finding the back of the net again in a 4-1 victory over No. 11 Woburn.

“Ella has been a solid player for us all year,” said Red Rangers interim head coach Ryan Sheehy. “She reads the ice well, plays shut-down D and has a cannon when she gets ahold of the puck. Big players show up in big games and she certainly lives up to that. Couldn’t be more happy with the way she is playing and as a captain, leading our team in the playoffs.”

The Red Rangers (20-0-2) will look to advance to the Final Four on Wednesday in a quarterfinal clash with No. 3 Algonquin at the Chelmsford Forum (5 p.m.).

The Player of the Week is selected by the Valley Sports Daily staff. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at 8:00 PM. There may be a poll posted on Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selection but do not strictly dictate the decision.
