Boys Player of the Week: Caden Smith, Central Catholic Football

Central Catholic junior Caden Smith has been selected as the Valley Sports Daily Boys Player of the Week for Sept. 29 through Oct. 4. Smith is the second student-athlete chosen as Boys Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year, which is presented on a weekly basis.

Smith orchestrated one of Central Catholic’s biggest football wins in recent history on Friday. In an exciting 28-27 win over two-time defending Division 1 state champion Xaverian, Smith dished out 188 passing yards and accounted for three scores. The play of the night — a 44-yard dime to Jeremiah Mateo Mora while being chased by Boston College commit Dominic Funke —set the table for a key touchdown before halftime that tied the game.

“He seems to come up with a timely play all the time,” Sexton said of Smith after Friday’s win. “He’s done a great job. I’m very happy we got him. We’re lucky to have him.”

Smith has excelled this season in a grueling schedule, totaling 818 passing yards (68-for-119) while throwing nine touchdown passes. On the ground, he’s racked up 388 yards on 40 carries for two touchdowns.

The Player of the Week is selected by the Valley Sports Daily staff. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at 8:00 PM. There may be a poll posted on Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selection but do not strictly dictate the decision.
