Central Catholic senior Sarah Tressler has been selected as the Valley Sports Daily Female Player of the Week, presented by MTM Insurance, for September 20 through September 26.
Tressler has been phenomenal all season for unbeaten Central (5-0). She has already racked up 13 goals and five assists this fall, and has an impressive 42 goals and 37 assists in her career. Tressler tallied two goal and two assists in a 5-2 win over Tewksbury, and had a hat trick in an 8-0 victory over Lawrence.
“Sarah’s performances are a reflection of the fantastic soccer player she is,” said Central head coach Jami Hayden. “But what makes her really special, since she started with us four years ago, is that she always puts the team first. Also, her competitive drive is something that’s unmatched and it elevates her own game, and in turn pushes everyone on our team to another level. We’re very fortunate to have a player who is a teammate and competitor like she is.”
Said Tressler, “I’m super proud of the team this year. We had a strong week last week, and I was able to combine with multiple different players for goals. Especially with the forwards we have up top, I think we can keep scoring consistently throughout the season and compete with some of the top teams in the state. I’m looking forward to seeing our hard work at practice show up in games, as it has so far.”
The Player of the Week, presented by MTM Insurance, is selected by the Valley Sports Daily staff. One male and one female student-athlete will be selected as Players of the Week throughout the year. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at 8 p.m. There may be a poll posted on Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selections but do not strictly dictate the decisions.
