Player of the Week: Charlie Wilkie, Dracut/Tyngsboro Hockey

Charlie Wilkie

Dracut senior Charlie Wilkie has been selected as the Valley Sports Daily Player of the Week for Jan. 12 through Jan. 18. Wilkie is the fourth student-athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the winter season.

Wilkie recently penned his name in the Dracut/Tynsgboro history books, recording his 100th career point in the team’s 6-3 win over Lowell on Jan. 16. Wilkie did so in thrilling fashion, recording three goals and an assist in the second period to eclipse the century mark.

“Charlie is the ultimate competitor,” said Dracut/Tyngsboro head coach Jeff DuRoss. “Plays in every key situation for us and is a huge part of our success in special teams. Also brings toughness and true leadership.”

Wilkie is leading D/T to a successful season on the rinks. Currently in first place in the MVC/DCL 3 with a 4-0-1 record in league play, D/T (8-1-1) upset Methuen on the road in one of its notable wins of the campaign. A stingy defense has only relinquished 12 goals on the season, a league low.

The Player of the Week is selected by the Valley Sports Daily staff. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at 8:00 PM. There may be a poll posted on Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selection but do not strictly dictate the decision.
