Player of the Week: Jake Burns, Tewksbury Football

Jake Burns

Tewksbury senior Jake Burns has been selected as the Valley Sports Daily Player of the Week for Nov. 17 through Nov. 23. Burns is the 18th student-athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year.

The captain had a big hand in Tewksbury’s latest dominant state tournament win on Friday over Canton. In the 35-6 romp in Lynn, the versatile tight end made four catches for 62 yards and a touchdown while adding a defensive score on a fumble recovery. Burns made huge catches on third down all game ahead of putting the finishing touches on Tewksbury’s win in the third quarter with a 20-yard touchdown grab. The 11-0 Redmen await Scituate in the Division 4 Super Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 12:45 p.m.

“I’ve been fortunate with great kids, great families that want to do the work and work hard towards that goal,” said Tewksbury head coach Brian Aylward after Friday’s win over Canton. “This team is so deserving to do that. I’m just happy for those kids that they get to experience it. Happy for Tewksbury.”

Burns has been a key cog in Tewksbury’s deep receiving core this fall and has caught six touchdowns this season while amassing 17 catches for 217 yards.

The Player of the Week is selected by the Valley Sports Daily staff. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at 8:00 PM. There may be a poll posted on Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selection but do not strictly dictate the decision.
