Boys Player of the Week: Ben Durkin, Lowell Football

Lowell senior Ben Durkin has been selected as the Valley Sports Daily Boys Player of the Week for Oct. 27 through Nov. 2. Durkin is the sixth student-athlete chosen as Boys Player of the Week for the 2025-26 school year, which is presented on a weekly basis.

Durkin, a jack-of-all-trades for the talented Lowell High football team this fall, checked all the boxes in Lowell’s 43-7 win over North Andover on Friday. Sending six extra points through the uprights, Durkin landed an interception for a touchdown and threw a 2-point conversion pass in the romp at Joe Walsh Field in North Andover.

“Benny has great attitude and last week impacted the game in all three phases,” said Lowell head coach Scott Boyle. “He is a versatile athlete and is willing to do whatever he can to help his team win. He is a coach on the field and can’t have enough players like that.”

The Red Raiders were among the best in the Merrimack Valley Conference this season, posting a 7-1 record (4-1 MVC) to finish in second place in MVC 2 behind unbeaten Tewksbury. Lowell’s 291 points are the most in all of the MVC. Look for Durkin to play a big role in the No. 10 Red Raiders’ efforts against No. 7 Methuen in the opening round of the Division 1 state tournament on Friday at Nicholson Stadium.

The Player of the Week is selected by the Valley Sports Daily staff. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at 8:00 PM. There may be a poll posted on Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selection but do not strictly dictate the decision.
