Central Catholic junior Anthony Polichetti has been selected as the Valley Sports Daily Player of the Week, presented by MTM Insurance, for May 11 through May 17. Polichetti is the seventh student-athlete chosen as Player of the Week for the spring season.
Polichetti played a pivotal role in two important wins for Central Catholic last week, which included a 5-3 win over North Andover and an 11-10 thriller over Andover. In the statement victory over the Scarlet Knights, the junior notched a two-run homer to provide the Raiders with a 2-0 lead in the first inning before drawing a critical walk in the later innings.
In the team’s exciting win over Andover, Polichetti was an impressive 4-for-6 at the plate with four RBIs to lead Central Catholic offensively. His single in the ninth inning proved to be vital, as he was later the winning run when Finn Rourke drove him in to end the game in walk-off fashion. Polichetti again opened the scoring in the nine-inning marathon, lacing a triple in the opening frame.
“(Anthony) had a monster game against Andover,” said Central Catholic head coach Leo Gravell. “We’re fighting for our playoff lives and he’s been huge. He’s at or near the top of every one of our offensive categories for us…Anthony loves to compete. He’s been awesome for us.”
