Tyler Nelson was perhaps one of the most talented boys basketball stars to ever come through the Merrimack Valley Conference.
And after a successful seven-year professional career, the former Central Catholic standout is stepping into a new role. The all-time leading scorer in Fairfield University men’s basketball history is coming home, as the school announced Friday that Nelson was tabbed as Fairfield’s Director of NIL Operations and Player Relations for both the men’s and women’s basketball programs.
The 2018 graduate will return to his alma mater after seven seasons of professional basketball, including stints in the NBA G League and in professional leagues in Germany and Greece.
The Bradford, Mass., native is a member of Fairfield’s Athletic Hall of Fame and played for the Stags from 2014-18. At Central Catholic, Nelson was a Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year winner while being named the MVC Player of the Year twice. He netted 1,443 career points as a Raider.
Nelson started his professional career with the Greensboro Swarm of the NBA G League before joining the Rostock Seawolves in Europe, where he spent five seasons from 2020-25. His 2024-25 season ended with a stint in Greece before finishing the year in Germany.
